Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Shardul Thakur might be picked in India squad for ICC World Cup 2023. Manjrekar also explained the reason why selectors might go ahead with Shardul Thakur in the team.
Shardul Thakur has been picked in India squad for Asia Cup 2023. Hence, he has a great chance to be picked for ICC World Cup 2023 as well. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has already mentioned that the World Cup squad will revolve around the Asia Cup squad.
I See Shardul Thakur Coming In Because He Provides Depth: Sanjay Manjrekar
During a conversation on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar was asked who are the bowlers who might be picked in ICC World Cup 2023 squad. To this, the cricketer-turned-commentator replied that Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur are four pacers who can be part of the World Cup squad as well.
“Currently, obviously [Jasprit] Bumrah No. 1. In white ball cricket, [Mohammed] Siraj No. 2. Then you have got [Mohammed] Shami and Shardul [Thakur]. So, if you have got a flat belter, expect your seam attack to be something like that,” the former Indian batter said.
Manjrekar also said since Shardul Thakur provides depth to batting, selectors might pick him.
“I see Shardul coming in because India will always be concerned about the batting depth. I see that as the pecking order,” the former right-handed batter further said.
Glad That Prasidh Krishna Is Back: Sanjay Manjrekar
Speaking about the Asia Cup 2023 squad, Sanjay Manjrekar said that he is glad that Prasidh Krishna is back on the Indian team. He also said that Krishna uses his pace and bounce to make an impression, something which is rare among Indian bowlers.
“I am glad Prasidh Krishna is back. He looked quite good. Very unique in the way he bowls with the new ball. If he bowls in Ahmedabad, he’s going to get a lot of bounce and he uses his height. Very rarely you see an Indian bowler use pace and bounce to make an impression,” Manjrekar further said.
Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence on August 30. Recently, India announced the squad for the tournament. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, who missed a lot of cricketing action this year due to injuries, are back on the team.
