ICC World Cup 2023: "Take It One Ball At A Time" - Greg Chappell Offers A Valuable Advice To Jasprit Bumrah

Former Australian captain Greg Chappell provided a valuable piece of advice to ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup. Gregg Chappell emphasized that Jasprit Bumrah needs to prepare mentally to do wonders for India in the marquee tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury during the T20I match against Australia in September last year. The right-arm pacer was ruled out of crucial tournaments for the national team over the past year, including the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Jasprit Bumrah Seems To Have A Very Good Mind – Greg Chappell
In a conversation with Boria Majumdar, Greg Chappell emphasized the importance of concentrating on one ball at a time and not thinking about the outcome.
“It is very much similar to that of Virat. He needs to de-clutter his mind and take it gradually. From what I have seen of him, he seems to have a very good mind. He will have to break things down for himself,” Chappell said.
“Take it one ball at a time. Not think too much about what can happen next. If he goes for a boundary, it is important to know that particular ball is over and done with. He needs to move away from it, and focus on the next ball,” he added.
The 29-year-old returned to the Indian team during the T20I series against Ireland. The pacer made an instant impact with the ball, picking up two wickets in his first over. He was rewarded as Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling in India’s two-run victory on Friday, August 18.
Comebacks Are Not Easy – Greg Chappell
The former Team India head coach stated that comebacks are challenging, as lingering injury thoughts can affect performance.
“Comebacks are not easy. Thoughts of the injury stay on in your mind and that could impact performance,” he further added.
And that’s why you need to free your mind. If he is able to do so and mentally get back to being the bowler that he was, he will do extremely well for India,” he concluded.
The ODI World Cup will be played in India between October 5 and November 19. The Men in Blue will start their campaign with the match against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
