Tickets for India’s upcoming clash against England in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 are reportedly being sold for as much as ₹50,000 in the black market. The mouth-watering clash is scheduled to be played at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 29.
And ahead of the game, the tickets in the black market are being sold at exorbitant prices. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the illicit sale is being done on close-knit groups on social networking sites. Confirming the development, Uttar Pradesh Police’s special director general (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said:
“The state police’s special agencies as well as the Lucknow police are keeping tabs on suspicious social media accounts involved in the black marketing of tickets for the Cricket World Cup matches to be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.”
Fans desperate for ICC World Cup 2023 tickets:
Despite the lack of tickets and the high price in black markets, the fans are desperate to get their hands on the World Cup tickets. The report stated that the tickets, which are normally priced at ₹499 (East and West Upper blocks) and ₹4,000 (North Corporate boxes), are being sold for ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 in black. And the fans are still ready to pay the big amount for the tickets.
“Ever since the World Cup fixtures were announced, I’ve been running from pillar to post to buy tickets for the India-England match. However, the official ticket booking website still says ‘coming soon’,” a fan told the news outlet.
“In my friends’ group on WhatsApp, I was offered a ticket for public stands for ₹21,000. So, I bought two tickets, for me and my wife,” he added. “Watching a World Cup match involving India is a big dream of mine.”
Talking about India’s campaign in the World Cup so far, the Men in Blue have won their first four games. They will be in action next on Sunday (October 22) when they lock horns against New Zealand. Just like India, New Zealand have also won their first four games.
