Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa recently stated that ace batter Virat Kohli never thinks about breaking records or his personal milestones as a batter. Robin Uthappa said that Virat Kohli’s primary goal at the moment is to secure the title in the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the finest batters India has ever produced in modern-day cricket. The 34-year-old achieved many milestones in his illustrious 15-year international career. The right-handed batter’s form will be crucial for the team to end their decade-long ICC Trophy drought.
Virat Kohli Doesn’t Really Care About Breaking Records – Robin Uthappa
In an interview with Times Of India, Robin Uthappa said that Virat Kohli is never obsessed with his personal milestones of breaking records,
“Virat (Kohli) doesn’t really care about breaking records anymore. We as people and fans are obsessed with it,” Uthappa told The Times Of India.
“He would much rather win matches for India irrespective of those hundreds. Virat’s focus will be on winning matches for India in the Asia Cup and World Cup. He doesn’t really care about the records,” he added.
Virat is currently three centuries away from equaling Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s (49) record for the most ODI centuries. Kohli is expected to achieve this milestone during the World Cup, which is set to be played at home between October and November.
His Sole Focus Is On Winning Matches – Robin Uthappa
The former Indian opener emphasized that winning the World Cup holds greater significance for Virat Kohli than surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
“Whether he (Virat) achieves that milestone (breaking Sachin’s ODI centuries record) during the Asia Cup, World Cup or at any (other) point in his career, it doesn’t matter because his sole focus is on winning matches for India, not his hundreds,” he concluded.
The cricketer hailing from Delhi captained India during the 2019 ODI World Cup. They displayed dominant cricket in the group-stage matches, but they faced a setback in the semifinal. The Men in Blue endured a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand in a knockout game.
