Right-hand India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been out due to a back injury and played his last match against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in March.
Iyer was supposed to be included in the upcoming Ireland series after several videos of him practicing in nets surfaced on social media platforms. However, the 28-year-old was not added to the squad since he was still not fully recovered and it raised questions over whether he will be included in the squads for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.
Shreyas Iyer went through back surgery a few months ago and recently again a video of him practicing in the nets has gone viral on the internet.

He is on the track: Rohit Sharma on Shreyas Iyer
A few days back while speaking to the reporters, the Men in Blue skipper, Rohit Sharma shared a big update on Shreyas Iyer’s recovery and said that the 28-year-old is on track to his recovery.
“Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for the World Cup,” said Rohit Sharma when he was asked about Iyer’s return.

In the 50-over format, Shreyas Iyer scored 805 runs in 20 matches after playing at the number four place. After suffering an injury in the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in Ahmedabad, the right-handed batsman failed to take part in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 against Australia at Oval. He also missed the ongoing West Indies tour of India. In Iyer’s absence, the team management tried Suryakumar Yadav but he failed to make a mark in ODIs.
India will start their ODI World Cup journey on October 8th against the mighty Australians at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
