New Zealand head coach Gary Stead and premier batter Kane Williamson provided a huge update about his fitness. The Kiwi skipper said that he’s getting better with his movements and is working hard to regain full fitness ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Kane Williamson suffered a horrific knee injury during the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He suffered an ACL injury in his knee and underwent surgery in New Zealand.

It was almost certain that Kane Williamson will miss the ICC World Cup 2023. But his recovery surprised many as he has started batting in the nets. The batter is working hard and still isn’t ruled out of the tournament. He has been showing great positive signs in rehab and New Zealand are quite optimistic about his return.

Kane Williamson while talking about his injury said that he’s trying to reconnect and is cooperating on some batting aspects. Speaking in a video posted on the Black Caps Twitter account, he explained:

Great to see some of the guys and some of the new faces too so yeah I was looking forward to the team camp nice to have it here at home as well in the mount and getting some training and just reconnect a little bit nice to be on the bike doing like fitness sessions on the bike and progressing from that lower level staff were really controlled.

“I’m getting better with my movements and been able to corporate some of the batting aspects, where you move your feet a little bit more but yeah so bit of work to do and I’m working hard.”

ICC World Cup 2023: Nice seeing him put the bat in his hand and hitting balls again – Gary Stead on Kane Williamson

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead also talked about Kane Williamson’s road to recovery and said that it’s good to see the batter hitting balls again. He revealed the captain himself put his hand up and said that he wants to work hard for the team as he has invested in it. He remarked:

“It’s nice to see him with a bat in his hand and hitting the balls again, albeit it’s not right at the level that he is to perform internationally,” Stead, New Zealand’s head coach, said. “It’s set certainly on the road to recovery, and it’s hugely silver linings in injuries and how you look at them, and to keep saying, ‘hey, I am invested in this team and I really want to keep playing for this team’, is magic to hear.”
