A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) has claimed that Rohit Sharma laughed while listening to Babar Azam during the ICC World Cup 2023 Captains Day event. While there was no opening ceremony for the marquee event, the ICC did organize a captains’ meet in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (October 4), just a day before the start of the competition.
Captains of countries participating in the competition – India’s Rohit Sharma, Pakistan’s Babar Azam, England’s Jos Buttler, Australia’s Pat Cummins, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, Netherlands’ Scott Edwards, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi, South Africa’s Temba Bavuma and Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka attended the event.
All the ten captains posed with the coveted World Cup trophy and also interacted with the media. And a clip from the very session has gone viral on social media. The reason is that it claimed Rohit Sharma laughed while Babar Azam spoke in English.
Time and again, one has seen Pakistan players becoming the butt of all jokes on social media for their poor English and a user named Ansh Shah came up with a similar post. As Babar Azam was speaking, the cameras turned towards Rohit Sharma who did look a bit confused but did not really smile. The user, however, claimed that Rohit Sharma was smiling and the post became viral in no time.

The Men in Green will begin their World Cup campaign on Friday (October 6) against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Earlier in the competition, New Zealand thrashed reigning champions England in the World Cup opener. The Black Caps began their campaign with a thumping nine-wicket win. Asked to bat first, England scored 282 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand rode on unbeaten centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway to chase down the total by losing just one wicket inside 37 overs.
