Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has shown his support for Rohit Sharma ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be hosted at home. Yuvraj Singh described Rohit Sharma as a good captain, emphasizing that he needs a quality team to secure victory in ICC tournaments.

Rohit Sharma captained the team in the Asia Cup 2022, the T20 World Cup 2022, and the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final. The 36-year-old was unable to secure victory in these tournaments. He will strive to lead the team to the title during his captaincy tenure.

Rohit Sharma Is A Good Captain – Yuvraj Singh

In a recent interview, Yuvraj Singh pointed out that MS Dhoni’s success as a captain was attributed to his possession of a formidable team comprising experienced players.

“Rohit Sharma is a good captain, but you will have to give a good team to him. MS Dhoni was a good captain too, but he had a good team with experienced players,” Yuvraj told Indranil Basu.

India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh played in at least two World Cups before the event.

You Need To Give A Good Team – Yuvraj Singh

The former Indian cricketer highlighted Rohit Sharma‘s success as the captain of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Singh mentioned that Rohit has shown the ability to perform well in high-pressure situations.

“I think Rohit has become a very good leader because he has led Mumbai Indians in IPL for such a long time. And he is a very sensible guy under pressure.

You need to give a good team to a sensible captain who is experienced as well. MS Dhoni was a good captain, but he also got a good team right?” he added.

The team has been plagued by injuries to experienced players. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are still recovering from their injuries, while Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his comeback against Ireland. The management is hopeful that all players will be fit to put an end to their ICC trophy drought.
