ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: New Zealand, on Friday (October 13) thrashed Bangladesh by 8 wickets to register their third win in a row in the ICC World Cup 2023. Chasing 246, New Zealand were off to a shaky start as in-form Rachin Ravindra departed for just 9 runs. Devon Conway and skipper Kane Williamson shared an 80-run stand to steady the ship. Shakib Al Hasan broke the stand by dismissing Conway for 45.
Williamson and Daryl Mitchell then added 108 runs for the third wicket before the former retired hurt. Williamson left the crease after scoring 78 runs. Mitchell and Glenn Phillips then took their team home in the 43rd over. Mitchell remained unbeaten on 89 while Phillips scored 16.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh scored 245 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs after being asked to bat first. The Bangla Tigers were off to a disastrous start as they lost four wickets for just 56 runs inside 13 overs. Left-arm pacer Trent Boult struck on the very first ball of the game to remove Litton Das for a golden duck.
Lockie Ferguson then dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in quick succession before Glenn Phillips sent back Najmul Hossain Shanto. Captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then steadied the ship for their side by adding 96 runs for the fifth wicket. Ferguson broke the stand by dismissing Shakib for 40.
Mushfiqur completed his fifty but could not last long after Shakib???s departure. Matt Henry castled him for 66 to reduce Bangladesh to 175 for 6. Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually finished on 245. Veteran batsman Mahmudullah also played a crucial knock of 41 not out towards the end.
