England and India finish with identical scores in 1st innings

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first in the match after a disastrous show in the Edgbaston Test. Despite losing two early wickets of Ben Duckett (23) and Zak Crawley (18), England managed to register a big score of 387 runs in 112.3 overs.

The English team dropped their Bazball approach in the match and scored at a run rate of 3.44 with Joe Root (104) being their top performer. Also, Brydon Carse (56) and Jamie Smith (51) smashed great half-centuries and took their team to a good score.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah bagged a sensational 5-wicket haul in the innings while Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy got two wickets each and Ravindra Jadeja got one.

When it was India's turn with the bat, they also got off to a poor start, but ended up with a score of 387, thanks to brilliant performances from KL Rahul (100), Rishabh Pant (74), and Ravindra Jadeja (72).

It was only the ninth instance in the history of Test cricket that both teams ended up with identical runs after the end of the second innings of a Test match. Also, 387 was the fifth highest total where both sides equalled their first innings scores.

England set India a target of 193 runs

In the third innings of the match, Indian bowlers performed incredibly well, and the English batter also put up a good fight to set up a cracking finish on Day 5 of the Lord's Test match.

England were bundled out for 192 on the fourth day itself, with Joe Root (40), Ben Stokes (33), Harry Brook (23), and Zak Crawley (22) making decent contributions with the bat.

For India, Washington Sundar turned out to be a game-changer with his four-wicket haul, while Jasprit Bumrah (2), Mohammed Siraj (2), Nitish Kumar Reddy (1), and Akash Deep (1) were also among the wickets.

Chasing 193, India got off to a horrible start as they lost four quick wickets for 58 runs before the end of the day's play. On Day 5, India needed 135 runs to win with six wickets in hand.

India started off the final day on a poor note and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At lunch, they were reduced to 112/8. Ravindra Jadeja (61* off 181), Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54), and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30) fought like warriors. However, Siraj's unfortunate dismissal led to India being bowled out for 170 and facing a 22-run loss.
