ICC World Test Championship Points Table, WTC Table After IND vs SA 2nd Test, 2025
Table of Contents
India have had a troublesome WTC so far, winning and losing games, and despite being the most active team in the year and having a handsome amount of home matches, the Indians have failed to retain their spot within the top four teams in the ICC World Test Championship Points Table.
India lost two consecutive Test matches at home, and after Rohit Sharma's era, this is the second time that such a feat has occurred. With their reduced chances in the WTC and a series of home losses, India have been shattered by the defending champions.
India has been handed their biggest ever defeat at home by the Proteas
India lost the match by a towering margin of 408 runs, as this is now officially the biggest ever defeat for India on home soil and considerably the most humiliating for any team on their home ground. This is also the biggest ever defeat for India by a margin of runs in a Test match, including both home and away games.
South Africa have won two of their last three Tests in the subcontinent and has only drawn one with the Pakistan team. However, until then, they had lost 10 of their 13 Tests in the sub-continent from 2015 to 2024.
This series not only marked South Africa's second Test series victory in India but also the first time that India has lost consecutive Test series at home in the 21st century. Before Gautam Gambhir, India had just faced two series defeats in 2004 and 2012 against Australia and England at home.
The last time India lost two home series in consecutive years was back in 1983 against the West Indies and then again against England in 1984/85. This whitewash marks India's second whitewash in the 21st century.
Simon Harmer creates history on Indian soil as a Proteas spinner
Simon Harmer, the spinner who made his return for the Proteas in this WTC, has been a performer for them. It is all due credit to the spinner that the Proteas have dominated India at their home. The Indian batters have averaged below 16 in the series and, for the first time in 30 years, have ended a series without a single hundred.
Simon Harmer has played 4 games against India in the sub-continent and has picked 27 wickets to his name with the best average of 15.03. 17 of those wickets came in this series alone. He now has the most wickets for South Africa in India and also the most in a single Test series for South Africa in India, and surpassed Dale Steyn on both lists.
Harmer averaged 8.94 in the series, which is only behind Courtney Walsh's 8.25 back in the 1994/95 series. Of all visiting bowlers with a minimum of 20 Test scalps in India, Harmer flaunts the best average and strike rate. What a performance from South Africa's player of the series.
