Team India, led by Shubman Gill, began their home season with a series victory over the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, October 14. The Men in Blue defeated the visiting team in the second and final Test to complete a clean sweep in their first home series of the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
India resumed the final day’s play at 63/1 while chasing 121, with KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan at the crease. The home team lost Sudharsan, who scored 39 runs, after a stunning catch by Shai Hope. However, they completed the run chase without much further damage and secured the series victory.
West Indies Asked to Follow On in Delhi Test
The West Indies were asked to follow on after being bowled out for 248 runs in their first innings. However, the visiting team showed improvement in their second outing, posting a total of 390 runs in their second innings and setting a target of 121 runs for India.
Shai Hope and John Campbell added a 177-run partnership for the third wicket. John Campbell (115) scored his maiden century with a six off Ravindra Jadeja, while Shai Hope (103) also reached a century before being dismissed. India’s bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals.
Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each, Mohammed Siraj claimed two, and Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar took one wicket apiece.
India Improves PCT Following Victory Over West Indies in Delhi
Coming into the contest, India were in third place in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) standings following their opening win against the West Indies. They were behind only Australia, who remained unbeaten, and Sri Lanka, who had a superior 66.67 PCT from just two Tests.
Following a victory in the second Test, Team India improved their PCT to 61.90, narrowing the gap to second place in the WTC standings. The Men in Blue have played seven matches so far in the cycle. They secured four wins, suffered two defeats, and drew one, with 52 points to their name.
The West Indies remain winless in the 2025-27 WTC cycle. They started the WTC cycle with a 0-3 home series defeat to Australia and have now suffered a fifth consecutive loss in the red-ball format. The Men in Maroon are sixth in the table, as Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand have yet to play any matches.
