The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and the Australia National Cricket Team locked horns with each other in the first game of the two-match Test series. The match took place at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.
Australia National Cricket Team started the Test series on high as they beat the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team by innings and 242 runs. The Steve Smith-led side were on the top of their game with the bat and ball and made sure that they strengthened their position in the ICC World Test Championship Points Table.
Australia post a massive total of 654 runs on the board
Australia National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a solid start outing with the bat, and it's fair to say that with the way they had batted, they almost sealed the game in the first innings, putting the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team under massive pressure.
Travis Head (57), who opened the innings for Australia, slammed a brutal half-century for his team at the top. Marnus Labuschagne (20) didn't have a great outing but the show was stolen by Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith, who oozed their class with the bat.
Usman Khawaja (232) slammed a double century and registered his highest score in Test career. He, along with Steve Smith (141), played a vital hand as well, slamming his 35th Test ton as the duo together put on 266 runs partnership to take command of the game.
Debutant Josh Inglis (102) also hit a glorious century before Alex Carey (46*) played a vital hand as well. Based on the collective effort with the bat, the Australia National Cricket Team posted a total of 654 runs on the board.
Matthew Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyon spin web around Sri Lanka batters, helping Australia win the first Test
Australia then came up with the magical effort with the ball. Matthew Kuhnemann bagged fifer while Nathan Lyon also picked two wickets. Thanks to their brilliant effort with the ball, Sri Lanka National Cricket Team got out for just 165 runs as they enforced follow-on as well.
Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon, in the second innings again, were all over the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team batters. The hosts put up a decent fight with the bat in the second essay, but the Steve Smith-led side kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Jaffrey Vandersay (53) kept his team in the hunt with fifty but Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann picked four wickets. Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy were also amongst the wickets as they bundled out the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team to win the game by innings and 242 runs.
