Australia have made an emphatic start to their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle with a victory over the West Indies in the first Test of the three-match series. The Pat Cummins-led side moved to the top of the WTC Table, level on points percentage with Ben Stokes-led England.
Australia secured a 1-0 lead against the West Indies with a 159-run victory in a low-scoring encounter. Batters from both sides struggled to score runs, but Travis Head smashed half-centuries in two innings. Head was named Player of the Match after guiding Australia to a dominant position during the game.

Australia played without Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne for the first time since 2018, while West Indies made eight changes from their last Test against Pakistan.
After choosing to bat, Australia were dismissed for 180 on the opening day, with Travis Head scoring 59 runs. Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph shared nine wickets between them. The West Indies managed to gain a narrow 10-run lead on day two, finishing with 190.
Several debatable decisions from TV umpire Adrian Holdstock frustrated the hosts. Travis Head, Beau Webster, and Alex Carey all struck fifties as Australia posted 301. In response, the West Indies collapsed to 141 all out in just 33.4 overs, with Josh Hazlewood taking 5 for 43.
