Former Indian opener-turned commentator, Aakash Chopra has picked the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in Team India’s playing 11 for the ICC WTC final against New Zealand.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that India’s strongest team be if they are able to pick both the spin-bowling all-rounders.

“The Indian team will look at the pitch closely before making a final call on the XI to be played. In my opinion, India’s strongest team will be if we are able to play both the spinners,” said Chopra.

India have named a 15-member squad for the World Test Championship final and in Aakash Chopra’s playing 11, Hanuma Vihari, Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, and Mohammed Shami, warm the bench.

The former opener named his playing 11 for the final which includes

“Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Jadeja, Ashwin, Bumrah, Shami and Ishant. This according to me is the best possible XI.” said Aakash Chopra.

With rain expected to play its part on all five days of the World Test Championship final, there could be a possibility that the Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri think-tank may have to drop one spinner from their playing 11 for an extra seamer.

In that case, Aakash Chopra reckoned that India could go with Ravichandran Ashwin given the fact that New Zealand have three left-handers in their top-6 and Ashwin’s record against the southpaws is second to none.

‘But the conditions might dictate you not to play a second spinner, there is more grass and so you play Hanuma Vihari along with three fast bowlers and one spinner,” claimed Aakash Chopra.

”If such a thing happens, then I will play Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of Ravindra Jadeja. The opposition team has three left-handers. You need to get them out and you really want to maintain control there,” he said.
