Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has opined on India’s chances in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand. Southampton will host the maiden tournament’s final between the top two sides in the table from the 18th to 22nd of June. Saba Karim believes that India’s chances of winning would increase ten-fold if Jasprit Bumrah brings out his A-game.

Former West Indian great Curtly Ambrose spoke highly of Jasprit Bumrah recently, backing him to touch the 400-wicket mark in Test cricket. Curtly Ambrose also revealed that the right-arm seamer is different to most of the bowlers he has seen and would be significant if India are to get past New Zealand in the World Test Championship final.

Saba Karim agreed with Curtly Ambrose’s assessment of Bumrah since the match would be occurring outside of India. The former Indian player underlined that the form shown by the 27-year old in the last three IPL games have been promising and a return to full flow would only mean increasing India’s chances of winning.

“Yes, Curtly Ambrose has said the right thing because the match is happening outside India, in Southampton in England. At this moment, the form Jasprit Bumrah has shown in the last 3-4 IPL matches, I have full belief that if Jasprit Bumrah shows good form in the World Test Championship match, our chances will increase significantly,” Karim said as quoted by India news.

The Patna-born cricketer further claimed that as the premier pace bowler of the team, Bumrah is likely always under pressure to deliver compelling performances. Simultaneously, Karim also pointed out the role of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma would be equally crucial in the tournament decider.

“Jasprit Bumrah is the premier pace bowler of the Indian team at the moment and he is a player who represents India in multiple formats. So, he always has the pressure to perform and to remain fit. Along with the role of Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, the role of all three of them will be very important in the Test match for India,” the 53-year old added.
