Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Singh Sodhi believes that captain Virat Kohli is a man on a mission as the men in blue heads to England ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. The two sides will lock horns beginning on the 18th of June to claim the ultimate prize in Test cricket. Reetinder Singh Sodhi reckons that Kohli would be keen to prove why they are the top-ranked Test side in the world.
India are currently leading the ICC World Test Championship’s points table with 520 points in their kitty, followed by New Zealand, who are 100 points away. Having beaten England and Australia in their last two Test series, Virat Kohli’s men are high on confidence and have momentum on their side. But New Zealand have enjoyed an upper hand over India in the recent past. The Kiwis also has a slight advantage since they will play two Tests against England before the decider.
Reetinder Singh Sodhi said that Virat Kohli is an angry young positive man, who would be keen to prove why the Indian team is number one and the talk about them is too much. The 40-year old conceded that Ravi Shastri’s confidence has been translated by the team as India has all the bases covered.
“You said angry young man. I will just want to add another word – angry young positive man. Because Virat Kohli wants to show the world why the Indian team is No. 1 and why they have been talked about so much. The positivity we talk about, Ravi Shastri has instilled that in this team. This team’s performance talks now. This team has good spinners, some of the best fast bowlers in the world and our batting is looking very strong,” Sodhi told India News.
Whichever team is able to withstand the pressure better will have a greater chance of winning: Reetinder Singh Sodhi
Reetinder Singh Sodhi opined that Virat Kohli’s focus shows in the fact that he considers India at par with New Zealand. Hence, Sodhi feels that the Kiwis have to play carefully and thinks that the team handling the pressure well would be the one having a greater chance of winning. He also asserted that India are well prepared for the decider.
“The way Virat Kohli said that we are going to board the flight thinking that we as a team are on par with New Zealand else we would not board the flight itself. It shows how focussed Virat Kohli is at the moment. So New Zealand will have to play carefully. It is a huge match, the World Test Championship final, so whichever team is able to withstand the pressure better will have a greater chance of winning and the Indian team is going with full preparation,” he added.
