Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s limited-overs skipper, intends to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) one day. The 32-year-old was not one of the 33 South African players who entered the IPL 2022 auction in February.
Over the years, dozens of new South African players have indeed been crucially important to their own respective IPL franchises. In even the most recent edition, Kagiso Rabada and David Miller are among the best players.
Bavuma stated on The Cricket Monthly that he’d like to represent a franchise and probably lead the tourney:
“I’d like to play there. The better my showings, the more the reason the possibility becomes. I’ve also established a dream of being a captain. I’m not sure where that came from. I’d like to gain that understanding as well. But first, I need to join a team!”
‘It’s encouraging to see some of our guys succeed. ‘: Temba Bavuma
The participation of South African performers in the IPL 2022 caused controversy because the major part of them was scheduled to play in the home series against Bangladesh. The second-string Proteas team won the Test series 2-0 but fell short in the ODI series.
Bavuma was pleased with the players’ performances at the highest level. The 32-year-old continued:
“It’s encouraging to see some of our guys succeed. KG [Rabada] is on his way to becoming the fastest to 100 wickets. [Lasith] Malinga is quicker. That is cause for celebration. And how has Marco Jansen gone and performed? Aiden [Markram] is another option.”
He continued “Even the new players have proven their worth. There has been a lot of discussion about Dewald Brevis. He is a promising young player for our team. And here comes Tristan Stubbs. It was great seeing those guys.”
India will face South Africa in a five-match T20I series beginning on Thursday (June 9).
