Indian pace bowler Mohammed Siraj appreciated skipper Rohit Sharma’s leadership qualities and mentioned his personal experience of working with him.

In February, Rohit replaced Virat Kohli as Indian team captain in all formats after the latter relinquished Test captaincy following defeat to South Africa in Tests in January.

Under Rohit’s leadership, India has sweeped New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka in the T20I series on home soil.
Rohit also started his red-ball captaincy career with a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka in March.

Rohit Sharma understands the mental state of a player: Mohammed Siraj

Siraj said Rohit motivates the players and always has alternative plans for them when they aren’t performing at the best.

“Rohit understands the mental state of a player. Whenever we have a tough time out there on the field, he is the one who comes up with a plan B and motivates the bowlers to do better in the game. It’s a great feeling to work under a captain who understands you so well,” Siraj told news agency ANI.

Will work on my fitness to swicth to Test cricket: Mohammed Siraj

Siraj was part of India’s squad during the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka but was left out for both games as India played Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah as the frontline seamers.

Siraj had a tough time in the recently concluded IPL 2022 – nine wickets in 15 games at an average of 57.11 and economy rate over 10.

Siraj was named in India’s squad for the rescheduled fifth Test against England in July. The 28-year-old has picked 14 wickets in four games with two four-wicket hauls in the England Test series.

“Right now, we have some time before we play the Test against England so for now, I would be training at the ground near my house and working on my fitness, as jumping from T20 to Test is a big change. To bowl those long spells in Test cricket, I really need to focus on my consistency, and it will be my only goal,” Siraj said.

India are leading 2-1 in the five-match Test series against England. The fifth Test will begin on July 1 in Birmingham.
