When Kohli Dropped a Bombshell
Kohli announced his sudden retirement from Test cricket after his poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign in Australia. Kohli began the BGT series on a high with a stunning century in Perth, but things quickly went downhill after that.
He repeatedly fell into the same trap, chasing balls outside the off stump in the fourth-stump channel. The moving ball troubled him throughout the five-match Test series in Australia, and his struggles became hard to ignore; eventually, he called time on his glorious Test career in May 2025.

Since then, Kohli has looked like a man reborn in ODI cricket, having retired from T20I as well in 2024. He has been scoring centuries with ease in ODIs, reminding everyone why he remains one of the best batters of his generation.
This stunning run of form has reopened old emotions and hopes, especially among those who believe he still has plenty left to give in Test cricket. There were even talks that BCCI is asking the former Indian captain to come out of his Test retirement.
Despite the growing noise and emotional appeals, Kohli has already made his position clear that he has no plans to reverse his decision. After winning the Player of the Match award in Ranchi against South Africa, Kohli stressed that Test cricket is behind him and that he will continue focusing only on ODIs.
