If Groomed Well Harshal Patel Can Do Well In Future ICC Tournaments - Madan Lal

Former all-rounder Madan Lal has claimed that bowlers like Harshal Patel can be stars in the coming ICC tournaments for India. Madan Lal is very much impressed by Patel’s superb form and his variations.

After having a memorable IPL season, where he bagged 32 wickets and took home the Purple Cap, Harshal Patel was given India debut in the second T20I against New Zealand Friday in Ranchi. The pacer registered brilliant figures of 2 for 25 and was named the Player of the Match.

Looking at India’s recent performance in the T20 World Cup, Madan Lal asserted the side needs to improve its bowling attack, and felt someone like Harshal Patel could be a good addition to it.

“Harshal has variations. He can be dangerous for the opposition. I said it before the T20 World Cup also and I will say again that our bowling department needs to be strong, and after seeing these talents, I can say that if groomed well they can do well in future ICC tournaments,” Madan Lal told IANS.

The 1983 World Cup winner also felt that the management is making a mistake by keeping Yuzvendra Chahal on the bench. Chahal was excluded from the T20 World Cup squad, and has now been on the bench for the first two T20Is against the Kiwis.

Madan Lal opined that though R Ashwin is bowling superbly, India need to bring back the senior leg-spinner in the eleven.

“I am happy that India won the two T20Is against New Zealand. But I will also say that they are making a mistake by not giving Yuzvendra Chahal a game.

“Ravichandran Ashwin is doing great; he’s getting chances and delivering well. I guess Chahal, too, is a very talented bowler and he needs to get some good number of matches, before the World Cup next year. Leg-spinners have always been a crucial part of the bowling department,” he added.

The third T20I will be played on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata
