Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has launched a scathing attack on the former allrounder Mohammad Hafeez for his comments questioning the achievements of Pakistani players from the nineties era.
Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that the great Pakistani players from the nineties era like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis carry a lot of weight and Pakistan cricket won't be as great without them.

Inzamam-ul-Haq slams Mohammad Hafeez
During an interaction with the reporters ahead of the PSL 2025 season, Inzamam-ul-Haq was asked about Mohammad Hafeez's comments on Pakistani cricketers from the nineties era. Inzamam, who himself is a player from the nineties, slammed Hafeez for his comments.
The former Pakistan skipper reminded everyone of the achievements of the great players from the nineties and claimed that Pakistani cricket won't be heavyweights in their absence. Inzamam-ul-Haq also advised Hafeez to refrain from saying such things in the future.
"If you take out the players from the nineties, then Pakistan cricket would not have too much weight. The ones who have won something after the nineties were also from that era only. The captain who won the World Cup was also from the nineties, the performers were also from the nineties," Inzamam-ul-Haq noted.
"The nineties era of Pakistan carries a lot of weight. So, nobody should say such things. I haven't listened to (the Hafeez comment) live and I've no idea on what context was that spoken. But we all know how the players from the nineties played during that time," he added.

What did Mohammad Hafeez say about nineties players?
Earlier, Mohammad Hafeez had taken a brutal dig at Pakistani players from the nineties era for not winning any trophy during their time. While he called himself a big fan of those players, he admitted that players like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis left no legacy for the upcoming generation.
"I am a huge fan of those who played in the 1990s but when it comes to legacy, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn't win an ICC event - they lost the (World Cups of) 1996, 1999 and 2003. We reached one final (in the 1999 World Cup) and lost that badly," Hafeez said on PTV Sports.
Hafeez was taking an indirect dig at the legendary Pakistan cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis for criticizing the current generation despite not winning any major trophy during their time.
Pakistan's poor run in CT 2025
Pakistan cricket team endured a lean run in the Champions Trophy 2025 where they failed to make it to the semi-finals. It was a new low for Pakistan cricket as they failed to do well despite being the hosts.
Pakistan lost their first two games to New Zealand and India respectively which ended their hopes of qualifying further. Their third game against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi was washed out due to rain.
