Ignored for England Tests, Shardul Thakur bags sensational 6-wicket haul in Ranji Trophy match

Indian bowler Shardul Thakur rattled Assam during the Elite Group B match being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Shardul bowled a killer spell on Day 1 of the match and picked six wickets by giving away just 21 runs which resulted in Assam getting wrapped up for 84 runs in their first innings. This is a brilliant sign for the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024.

Shardul Thakur was part of India‘s squad for the Test series against South Africa and played the first Test match at the Super Sport Park in Centurion. Thakur was also part of the India cricket team during the ODI World Cup 2023, however, he didn’t play many games throughout the tournament.

Shardul Thakur is also known for his ability to take wickets at the much-needed time of the innings, Thakur can contribute a bit of runs with his batting skills by coming lower down the order. Shardul is not part of the Indian side for the Test series against England but has showcased his form to the cricket experts, which is a great sign for the Indian team for the upcoming tournaments.

Shardul Thakur will now be seen playing in the Indian Premier League 2024 and was picked by the Chennai Super Kings in the auction. It was a homecoming for Thakur as he played for CSK from IPL 2018 to 2021, and later represented Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Thakur didn’t have a decent outing with DC and KKR, wherein he was not able to repeat the performance that he did for CSK.

MS Dhoni has played a major role in nurturing Shardul Thakur as a bowler. Thakur has picked up wickets whenever CSK has needed him to do so and played a major role in helping the franchise win the titles in 2018 and 2021. Thakur will aim to perform well in the Indian Premier League 2024 and also make his contention to get selected for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shardul Thakur was not able to make it to the squad during the last edition of the tournament and now will be aiming to play the competition once again for India after 2021. Thakur is also one of the go-through bowlers for the Indian cricket team along with the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.

The Indian team played like champions during the ODI World Cup 2023 and destroyed every opposition team with their bowling. This included brilliant performances from the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

Getting back to the IND vs ENG Test series, India have showcased a brilliant bowling performance so far and pacer Jasprit Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker of the series with 15 wickets from 2 games. The Indian team are currently playing the 3rd Test match against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. India would be hoping to win the match and also gain a lead in the series. The five-match series is currently levelled at 1-1.
