The International League T20 (ILT20) will be introducing a ‘Super sub’ rule in the second season of the tournament. The league will begin on the 13th of January in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) across three different venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
The rule of the super sub will be similar to that of the impact player that was introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as per ESPNCricinfo. Teams need to announce seven players more apart from playing 11 at the toss. The ILT20 has given leeway to teams to have 7 players are super subs.
Teams in ILT20 can bring in a super sub at any point of the game after the first over of the match and the player can also be introduced at the start of the second innings.
The player who will be substituted by the super sub in the ILT20 cannot take part in the match anymore. The league also will be introducing a new guideline related to playing 11. A minimum of two UAE players should be part of the XI.
Therefore if teams want to introduce a super sub, who will be a UAE player, he needs to replace his national teammate of an overseas player. The ILT20 also stated that teams will have to submit a squad of 18 players on the eve of the game. At least four UAE players along with two Associate overseas players should be a must in that 18-member squad.
A super sub can only be introduced once the over is completed, at the fall of the wicket, or if the batter retires himself or gets injured. The player for the bowling side can also be introduced at the fall of wicket but he will not be allowed to complete an unfinished over. He, however, can complete his quota of overs regardless of how many overs the replaced player had bowled.
ILT20 Introduces Penalty For Slow Over Rates
ILT20 also will be introducing a penalty for the slow over-rate in the second edition of the league. If the bowling team will be short of the cut-off time then only four fielders will be allowed outside the 30-yard circle. If the side is two overs behind then only three fielders will be allowed outside.
If a side is short of 3 overs then they will be docked 5% of the match fee per over along with three fielders in the outfield. The ILT20 recently got a List A T20 status from the International Cricket Council (ICC), becoming the first T20 League from an Associate country to achieve the feat. Also, the statistics of the league will be recorded officially as T20 records.
Various global superstars play in the league and are expected to be part of the second season. The first season was nothing short of exceptional and a similar kind of show is expected for the second season.
