Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been banned from participating in the International League T20. The right arm will not be allowed to take part in the tournament for the next months as he was found guilty of breaching the contract.

Naveen-ul-Haq, who plays for Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20, played a vital role for the team in the tournament. However, it will be a great setback for the team as one of the star bowlers has been banned from the league. The Afghanistan pacer was a great force for Sharjah and played a vital role in their success.

Naveen-ul-Haq breached a player agreement with his franchise Sharjah Warriors. The fast bowler was offered a one-year extension by the team. But he didn’t agree to sign. After playing for the franchise in the first season, he was offered the same terms and conditions and was asked to sign the retention notice for Season 2.

After Naveen-ul-Haq refused to sign the retention notice the Sharjah Warriors reported the issue to ILT20. The league tried to resolve the issue through a mediation process. They contacted a third-party mediator to look into the matter. However, they didn’t succeed, and their attempt to resolve failed.

The ILT20 Disciplinary Committee members in Chief Executive Officer David White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam, and Member Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas then listened to both sides separately. After interactions with Naveen-ul-Haq and Sharjah Warriors, ILT20 examined the things.

ILT20 reached the conclusion that they will be handing a 20-month ban to Naveen-ul-Haq for breaching the contract. It will be set back for the pacer as well and it might hamper his future in other leagues around the world as well. His act might made franchises across the world think twice before signing him.

ILT20 CEO David White Issues Statement On Naveen-ul-Haq’s Ban From Tournament

IlT20 CEO David White issued a statement following the ban of Naveen-ul-Haq. He said that they had no option left but to ban the Afghanistan pacer because of what he did. He stated (as quoted by Crictracker):

“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party. Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honour his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors, and as such the league had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him.

“The disciplinary proceedings against Naveen were conducted in a transparent manner and both parties involved were given opportunities to prepare and present their submissions.”

Naveen-ul-Haq had a great outing in season one of the ILT20. He bagged 11 wickets in the 9 games and was economical as well. He also picked a fifer in the tournament. He recently retired from the ODIs to focus on T20Is and franchise cricket around the world cricket. It remains to be seen what will the impact of him getting banned in ILT20 will be on the other leagues across the World.
