Former India National Cricket Team all-rounder and newly appointed Bengal head coach, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, has said that he is an ardent follower of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly and labelled the ex-India skipper as the “most sorted out person”.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla played 3 One Day Internationals for the India National Cricket Team. He didn’t have a good run in international as he was able to score only 18 runs and pick one wicket. He made his ODI debut in March 1999 against Sri Lanka and played his last ODI in the same year in September against West Indies. On 30 December 2015, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who was named as the new head coach of Bengal by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Tuesday, had served as West Bengal’s Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports between 2016 and 2021.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Shukla was asked if there is any coach whom he idolises.
“I don’t believe in role-models, but I’m an ardent follower of Dadi (Sourav Ganguly). He is the most sorted out person I’ve seen. When I played under Dada’s captaincy, we never had long team meetings. All his instructions were simple and straightforward. I’m trying to imbibe that philosophy in my coaching,” Shukla told SportsKeeda.
Shukla, who played for Bengal under Ganguly, also revealed that he talks to the BCCI president quite often and he wanted him to take the charge of the Bengal team.
“I talk to Dadi quite often. He wanted me to take charge of the team. I hope I can continue in the same way I used to play,” Shukla added.
I like taking new challenges – Laxmi Ratan Shukla
“I like taking new challenges. All the past coaches for Bengal did a superb job for the team. We have come close to winning trophies in the past but we’ll have to climb all the way again to reach the top in the new season.
“My motto is everyone can and everything is possible. I want everyone to believe in themselves. We will have to develop the art of holding onto our nerves when the situation is tough.
“All players who have reached this level are all capable. It’s a new year, new season and we are hoping for the best.”
