Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami wishes to pass down as much information as possible to the youngsters before he hangs up his boots. The 30-year-old along with Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma has become a crucial cog of the Test team, having helped the team register Test match wins in South Africa and England, and a series triumph in Australia a couple of years ago.

However, he is facing stern competition from Mohammed Siraj for a place in the side for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Irrespective of that, Mohammed Shami says he is always there for the young pacers, who are emerging in numbers in the past few years in Indian cricket.

“‘It comes automatically as after being in international cricket for so many years, I would like to share any input that the youngsters may want. I am not going to play forever, so it will be great if I can pass on something to the youngsters,’’ Mohammed Shami told Gulf News.

I am confident it will be a great summer for us: Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami missed out from the last three Tests in Australia and the entire home series against England owing to a wrist injury he suffered in the Adelaide Test.

He made his return via the IPL 2021, which was suspended earlier in the month. Bowling for Punjab Kings, Mohammed Shami didn’t look at his best, picking up 8 wickets in 8 matches.

Nonetheless, the seamer is confident that the team will perform brilliantly on its tour of the UK, which comprises the WTC final, followed by a 5-Test series versus England, carrying on the form from the wins in the last couple of series.

“We have played some extraordinary cricket in recent times as an unit and naturally, the confidence level is high on the eve of our departure for England. If we can reproduce some of the form which we did over last six months, I am confident it will be a great summer for us,” Mohammed Shami believes.
