Global Super League will begin on 26th November
The inaugural edition of the Global Super League will begin on 26th November, and the final will be played on 7th December. Caribbean Premier League team Guyana Amazon Warriors are scheduled to take on Pakistan Super League side Lahore Qalandars in the curtain raiser of the tournament.
The Providence in Guyana will be hosting all the games of the Global Super League. The tournament every year will see teams from around the world each year. The tournament will be a replica of the Champions League, which saw teams from different leagues taking part in it.
International club competition has proven itself to be successful across other sports - Giles White, director of Men's Cricket at Hampshire
Giles White, director of Men's Cricket at Hampshire, talked about the inaugural edition of Global Super League and said that it shows Guyana's ambition to become a global sporting destination. He admitted that the league has been sanctioned by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and fully supported by the government of Guyana. He elaborated:
"International club competition has proven itself to be successful across other sports and has been lacking in cricket for some time. It has been sanctioned by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and "fully supported" by the government of Guyana, a "key stakeholder" in the competition, and has a prize money of US$1 million."
Key players might miss the Global Super League
The tournament, however, might see the unavailability of a lot of players for the teams. West Indies are set to play two Tests against Bangladesh at home between November 22 and December 4. The series will clash with the league, and players Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, and Kevin Sinclair, players might be unavailable for the Guyana Amazon.
On the other hand, there could be problems for Rangpur Riders as well. They could be without the services of Hasan Mahmud. The fast bowler has been a regular member of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the longest format of the game and is likely to play the series.
Not only Hasan Mahmud, but Babar Azam also might not play for Rangpur Riders. Pakistan are slated to tour South Africa for an all-format tour, starting with the T20Is on December 10. Hence the premier batter could miss the tournament to prepare himself for the tour.
Also, Shaheen Afridi, who captains Lahore Qalandars, might be in doubt for the same reasons. The tournament will also be clashing with Abu Dhabi T10, slated to be held from November 21 to December 2.
