Team India are currently in South Africa. The India tour of South Africa 2023-24 will conclude with the upcoming second Test against the hosts. The Indian team toured the African country for three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests.

The T20I series ended at 1-1 before the Men in Blue won the ODI series 2-1. South Africa then bounced back by registering a thumping win in the first Test. The Proteas thrashed India by an innings and 32 runs inside three days to take an unassailable lead in the two-match series and ended the visitors’ hopes of registering a first-ever Test series win in South Africa.

After the humiliating defeat in the first Test, the Men In Blue will be desperate to bounce back and win the second Test to level the series. The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to be played from January 3 in Cape Town.

New captain for Team India against Afghanistan?

After the tour of South Africa, the Men In Blue will welcome Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series. It will be a historic series as it will mark the first instance of India and Afghanistan playing a multi-match white-ball series against each other. And Team India are likely to have a new captain in place for the IND vs AFG series.

In Hardik Pandya’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav led the team in the T20I series against Australia last month and South Africa earlier this month. However, the Mumbai star is also set to miss the upcoming series against Afghanistan after suffering a Grade-II tear in his ankle. He has been ruled out of action for almost two months

As the anticipation builds around who will lead the Men In Blue in the upcoming series, a significant clue has been dropped by Sports18, the official broadcasters. In a telling move on Saturday (December 30), they unveiled the first poster of the series featuring images of Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan and India star Shubman Gill. This subtle hint has sparked speculation that the young batsman might be entrusted with the leadership role.
