IND vs AFG: "Last 12 Months Have Been..." - Arshdeep Singh Opens Up On His Performance

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh is one of the most talented pacers in the current era and can bowl crucial overs during the early and the death overs of the innings. Arshdeep will once again be in action during the third IND vs AFG T20I match all set to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Arshdeep Singh has to go through very tough challenges in the last few games against Australia and picked up 4 wickets from games. However, also went for 40-odd runs in every match, which has also been his main weakness in the past. Arshdeep will also be a candidate to get picked for the T20 World Cup 2024 all set to start in June in the West Indies and USA.
Arshdeep Singh has certainly improved in the T20I series against South Africa and Afghanistan. Arshdeep has picked up 4 wickets from 4 games but his economy rate has come down to eight runs an over, which is very much economical in the T20I format.
Arshdeep Singh came up to speak in the pre-match IND vs AFG 3rd T20I match press interaction. Arshdeep analyzed his performances from the past 1 year and said that it has been a mixed bag. Singh added that he will be aiming to add value and contribute to the team’s success as India takes on Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I.
Arshdeep Singh opens up on his performance in the last 12 months
Arshdeep Singh said (as quoted by PTI), “The last 12 months have been a mixed bag (of experience). There were a few good performances and I got to learn something new. There were a few ups and downs as well, making my performances neutral.”
Further speaking in the press conference Arshdeep Singh added that he is sharpening up his skills. Arshdeep added that he tried a few variations in the last match which worked and gave him confidence.
Arshdeep Singh said, “Specifically, I recently started (bowling) with a new ball, especially on slow wickets. In the last match, I tried a few variations, especially against left-handers, and it worked and it gave me some confidence. Otherwise, I am trying to sharpen my skills.”
Arshdeep Singh explained the clarity of his role in the team which has helped him in his development as a player. Singh also faced some challenges with the ball but the clear understanding of his role helped him gain a lot of experience. He said, “Players’ roles are defined. As a bowler, you know, you have to bowl at the start and middle overs. When there is clarity, you come up with good performances.”
India would be walking in the third match of the series to whitewash Afghanistan and boost their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024. India would begin their campaign in the tournament on June 5 against Ireland, whereas they are slated to face Pakistan on June 9. India have not won an ICC trophy in the last 10 years and will want to end the drought in the upcoming tournament.
