Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour provided a major update on young opener Shubman Gill, saying that he is recovering well from illness. Vikram Rathour confirmed that Shubman Gill was hospitalized as a precautionary measure, but returned to the hotel.
Shubman Gill is battling a high fever and is still in the recovery stage. He was unable to play in India’s opening match against Australia and will also be sidelined for the clash against Afghanistan. He was briefly hospitalized in Chennai due to a drop in his platelet count.
Shubman Gill Is Recovering Well – Vikram Rathour
Speaking at a press conference ahead of India’s match against Afghanistan, Vikram Rathour expressed optimism about Shubman Gill‘s rapid recovery.
“He is recovering well. He was hospitalised, yes, but that was more as a precaution. He is back in the hotel; he is recovering well. So, being monitored by the medical team and whatever update we get, we are hoping that he will recover pretty soon. He is looking good actually,” Rathour said.
Ishan Kishan opened the innings for India in the first match against Australia. However, the left-handed batter was dismissed for a duck after playing a loose stroke. Ishan is expected to open the innings in the match against Afghanistan.
We Have A Very Experienced Batting Unit – Vikram Rathour
Vikram Rathour expressed confidence in the team’s experienced batting unit, emphasizing that each player has their own playing style to perform well.
“We have a very experienced batting unit at the moment. I don’t think that message is required. Everyone knows how they have to play in this format. We have a very settled batting unit at the moment. Everyone has their own way,” Rathour added.
“We are giving them the freedom to play the way they want to play. And we understand that everybody has a different way of playing. But everyone has their own way of playing and we have the trust that if they play and back themselves, we will achieve what we are looking to achieve.”
The Rohit Sharma-led team will face the Afghanistan team in their second match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 11. The hosts are currently in fourth place in the 10-team points table with two points to their tally.
