Fans on X reacted after Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson bagged a golden duck in the third T20I against Afghanistan. The dead-rubber third match between the teams is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

India have opted to bat first and their decision hasn’t paid off. They have lost quick wickets and are under pressure. The hosts lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Virat Kohli (0) on two successive balls and it was expected that Sanju Samson would bail the team out of trouble and make the most of the opportunity.

Sanju Samson, who got the opportunity in the third game, had a stage set to make his case strong in the T20I team. However, it didn’t go his way as he bagged a golden duck and with his wicket team came under a lot of pressure. 

Sanju Samson perished on the third ball off the 4th ball to Fareed Ahmad. The pacer bowled a short ball that was outside off and was angled across. The keeper-batter tried to pull and got the top edge in the process. 

The ball lobbed up and was taken easily by Mohammad Nabi. After his wicket, the crowd was silenced and it was the third strike for Fareed Ahmad. With his wicket, India were left tottering at 22/4 inside the first 5 overs at the batting paradise in Bengaluru. 

Many have been lashing out at the Indian team management for not giving chances to Sanju Samson. However, he couldn’t make the most of the opportunity. The innings was crucial for him in the context of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 because there have been quite a few players who are fighting for the keeper’s spot. It remains to be seen what will be his future in the T20Is now going into the mega event.
