IND vs AFG: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Set To Be Part Of Afghanistan T20Is - Reports

The wait to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20Is is all set to get over. As per the reports in Sports Today, it is learned that the duo is all set to be included in the team for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan.

India will take on Afghanistan in the three-match series. The series will begin on 11th January in Punjab followed by a second match to be played on Sunday (14th January) in Indore with the last match slated to take place on 17th January in Bengaluru.

Since the last few months, there have been a lot of speculations about the availability of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20Is. However, the recent reports in Sports Today have put rest on all the speculations as the duo is all set to feature in the three-match series.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven’t played a single T20I since the last T20 World Cup. BCCI has given a lot of opportunities to youngsters in their place and Hardik Pandya has been captaining the team and has done a reasonably good job.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, all set to return for the T20I series against Afghanistan, it could well be an indication that they are very much in contention for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in June this year in the United States of America (USA) and the Caribbean.

With both the batters set to return to the T20I setup, it is also expected that Rohit Sharma might take over the charge of the team as well. There also have been talks about the Indian captaincy in the shortest format of the game but they too are likely to be rested.

Rohit Sharma captaining the team won’t be a surprise as Hardik Pandya is currently injured and Suryakumar Yadav isn’t fit. Therefore, it is almost certain that if he returns to the team, he will captain the side as well.

Apart from the reports related to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to T20I format, some reports have suggested that BCCI is all set to announce squad for the the series against Afghanistan on Saturday (6th January). This will be the last bilateral T20I series for the team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

There were recent reports which suggested that BCCI will be monitoring 30 players during the IPL. They will be keeping a keen eye on those players before finalizing final 15 for the World Cup. It remains to be seen what will be the roadmap of the team going forward.

The return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be a boost for the team as they will bring experience along with them. The combination of youth and experience might prove to be costly for the team in the World Cup. They would be hoping to end the ICC title drought and win their first-ever title since 2013.
