India are chasing down 159 runs in the first IND vs AFG T20I match being played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. While Indian captain Rohit Sharma was run out for a duck, Shubman Gill was dismissed for 23 runs off 12 balls by Afghani spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Gill was striking the ball at 191 and looked good to play a big innings.

Shubman Gill was dismissed on the fifth ball of the fourth over when he was stumped by wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Mujeeb Ur Rahman dragged the length of the ball back and when Gill was trying to slog the ball. The ball kept low but Gurbaz was good to collect the ball and removed the bails. Shubman could have been dangerous for Afghanistan as he hit five fours throughout his innings.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman gets rid of Shubman Gill for 23 runs

Shubman Gill has not been able to score many runs with the bat and has had an average stint in the last few months. Gill only scored 354 runs from nine matches and his highest score was 92 runs. Shubman Gill was also not able to do much on the South African tour and was dismissed for many low scores throughout his innings.

Shubman Gill only scored 74 runs from two matches and his highest score was 36 runs during the first innings of the second Test match played at the Sahara Park Newlands. Gill is one of the premier players of the Indian cricket team, and also is known as the future of the Indian team.

The fans witness Shubman Gill a candidate to take over the legacy of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Gill has been brilliant with the bat for the Indian team in 2023 and was the leading run scorer in the whole year. Gill scored 2154 runs from 48 matches and slammed seven hundreds across all formats.

Shubman Gill’s highest score was against New Zealand when he slammed a double hundred during the first ODI back in January 2023 in Hyderabad. Gill is the youngest batsman to slam a double hundred in the ODI format.

Shubman Gill will now want to regain his lost touch and also cement his place as the partner of Rohit Sharma in the white ball format. Gill has a lot of competition beside him as players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are the prime contenders to open for India in the white ball format.

Getting back to the first IND vs AFG T20I match, India would want to make a winning start to the series. This is India’s last bilateral T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 and they will directly head to the tournament set to start from June 1, 2024.

India have not won an ICC trophy for the last ten years and faced losses from Australia in 2023. India lost the WTC 2023 final and the ODI World Cup 2023 final. India were ruthless in the whole ODI World Cup but were not able to cross the last obstacle and faced another heartbreak in an ICC event.
