India National Cricket Team star player Virat Kohli was at his absolute best on the field in the third and final T20I of the home series against the Ibrahim Zadran-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.

Kohli has made his comeback to the T20I cricket for the India National Cricket Team in the series against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team after a long wait of 14 months. Notably, he along with Rohit had kept their main focus on Test and ODI cricket with the BCCI providing opportunities to youngsters in T20I cricket.

Kohli didn’t take part in the first T20I match of the series against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team as he made himself unavailable for selection due to personal reasons. However, he returned to the team for the second T20I in Indore and blasted a brilliant 29 runs. He showed his intent from ball one and took the Afghan bowlers to the cleaners.

Expectations were very high from Virat Kohli in the dead rubber game against Afghanistan as the match was hosted by his IPL home ground – M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Fans expected Kohli to fire with the bat after the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, but it didn’t happen as the batting maestro was forced to walk back to the hut for a golden duck.

Virat Kohli tried to smash a delivery off Fareed Ahmad straight but was caught by Ibrahim Zadran. As Kohli got dismissed the entire crowd in Bengaluru went into dead silence.

Although Virat Kohli wasn’t able to make any impact with the bat, he made sure he made his best efforts on the field. Virat Kohli looked highly energetic and did a brilliant job in the second innings. However, his best came when he saved a certain six from going over the boundary.

On the 5th ball of the 17th over, the India National Cricket Team all-rounder Washington Sundar bowled a tad short delivery to Karim Janat, who smashed it off the back foot. The ball looked set to go past the long-on, but Virat Kohli channeled his inner Superman, timed the jump to perfection, and flapped the ball hack inside the field. Afghanistan batters got only one rune when they were destined to get 6, thanks to Kohli’s outrageous efforts.

Talking about the third T20I between India and Afghanistan, it finished with the home side winning an absolute thriller. India posted a humongous total of 212 runs on the board, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s extraordinary ton. Chasing the target, Afghanistan batters chipped in with crucial runs and equaled India’s total. Then, the teams played two Super Overs to finally decide the winner, which was India.

Speaking after the match, Ravi Bishnoi, who bowled a terrific last Super Over, said that his heartbeat was very high but he was extremely confident. He elaborated:

“The pressure was there, the heartbeat was racing, but I was confident about getting the job done. I was told by the captain that I’ll bowl – I knew it wouldn’t be easy for them if I bowl back of the length ball, it would be tough to smash on the back-foot.

“It gives a lot of pleasure to defend during the super overs. I’m happy with the way the ball is leaving my hand. My only thought is to ensure that the batter doesn’t get himself used to only one type of delivery, I’ve worked on my leg-spin in the nets and at the domestic levels.”
