Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was unimpressed with middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer’s shot selection against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023. Yuvraj Singh questioned the Indian team’s batting order and suggested KL Rahul should bat at the No. 4 position.

Indian bowlers put up an excellent performance, restricting Australia to 199 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. Ravindra Jadeja ran through the Australian middle order, taking three wickets while conceding just 28 runs in his 10 overs.

Need Better Thinking From Shreyas Iyer – Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh took to his social media handle X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize Shreyas Iyer‘s reckless shot. Yuvraj suggested that Iyer should adopt more thoughtful strategies for rebuilding the innings.

“No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure!! Need better thinking from @ShreyasIyer15 when the team is trying to rebuild their innings ! Still don’t understand why @klrahul is not batting at no 4 ! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan ! Dropping @imVkohli might cost Australia big time, don’t drop the king because he can take the game away. Game on !!,” Yuvraj posted on ‘X’.

Iyer made his World Cup debut against Australia but was dismissed for a duck. He has been the designated No. 4 batter for the Men in Blue in recent years. He has scored 867 runs in 23 innings with an average of 43.35, including two centuries and five half-centuries.

KL Rahul Named Player Of The Match

Shreyas Iyer came in to bat at No. 4 after the team lost the wickets of openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma for ducks. He was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in the second over after playing a loose shot. His dismissal left India in a challenging position at 2/3 inside 2 overs.

However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul forged a match-winning 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket to rescue the team from the early collapse. Virat Kohli scored 85 runs, while Rahul contributed 97 runs. Rahul was named Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
