IND vs AUS: Axar Patel To Miss First 2 ODIs vs Australia, Shreyas Iyer 99% Fit, Reveals Rohit Sharma

After winning the Asia Cup 2023, the India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma spoke to the media and provided a massive update on the injuries of spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer.

Axar Patel was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 final due to a left quadriceps strain. Washington Sundar replaced him in the squad and he also made it to India’s playing XI for the summit clash.

Axar Patel got the opportunity to play in two matches in the Asia Cup 2023. In his first game against Sri Lanka, he scored 26 runs and had bowling figures of 0/29. In his second game against Bangladesh, he showcased a batting masterclass and hit 42 runs to keep the hopes of Indian fans alive, but he wasn’t able to help India cross the finish line and they lost by 6 runs.

Also, he had a bowling figures of 1/47. It was during the Bangladesh clash that Axar had suffered an injury, which ruled him out of the final of the continental tournament.

Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, was part of India’s playing XI in the first two matches of the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan and Nepal. However, he suffered a back spasm ahead of the Super Four stage and missed the rest of the competition.

Speaking to reporters after the Asia Cup 2023 final, Rohit Sharma revealed that the spin-bowling all-rounder will most likely miss the first two of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. He also revealed that the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has almost gained full fitness.

“Axar Patel is likely to miss the first two ODIs against Australia while Iyer is 99 percent fit,” the India National Cricket Team captain said.

India hammered Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final by 10 wickets after bundling them out for 50, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s sensational spell.

India’s next assignment is a three-match ODI series against Australia, which will be played on September 22, 24 and 27. After the series, India will participate in the marquee ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at home.
