Former India National Cricket Team and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach, Sanjay Bangar, has made a huge remark on the Indian fast-bowling unit, saying that it is equally good as the Pakistan pace-bowling attack.

In the first of the three possible encounters between arch-rivals in the Asia Cup, the Men In Green pacers – Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf – dismantled the Indian batting unit. They reduced India to 66/4 before Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya bailed the side out of trouble.

However, they made a good enough comeback and picked wickets at regular intervals to bowl out India at 266. Shaheen bagged four wickets while Haris and Naseem picked three wickets each. It was the first time in ODI Asia Cup history that all 10 wickets in a match were picked by pacers. The next match between the two sides will be played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on September 10.

During a discussion on Star Sports, Bangar said that the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami is equally dangerous as Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. He said:

“India’s fast-bowling attack is as good as Pakistan’s fast-bowling attack. You have Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah. Even if you look man to man, we are equally as good an attack as the Pakistani attack is.”

Notably, India played Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as two specialist pacers against Pakistan with Shardul Thakur being the third pacer and No.8 batter.

Believe me, on that surface when India had set up a score of around 260 or 270… – Sanjay Bangar

Sanjay Bangar added that Indian pacers would have given some tough time to Pakistan batters during the clash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium as the surface was assisting the fast bowlers. He said:

“Believe me, on that surface when India had set up a score of around 260 or 270, that would have been a challenging task to the Pakistani batters as well because the wicket was doing a bit.”

Sanjay Bangar also stated that the pitches in Sri Lanka will assist both India and Pakistan bowling units.

“Now that Pakistan is moving out of their home conditions wherein those are batting-friendly conditions, there will be certain wickets in Sri Lanka which are going to assist both types of bowlers. There is lack of pace, at times the ball tends to hold on to the surface a little bit and that’s where their batters, who are used to playing through the line, might just find that their runs have suddenly dried up,” he elaborated.
