Australia batter Matt Renshaw recently picked the players to watch out for from the India national cricket team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Matt Renshaw ignored veteran Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli among the players to watch out for in the five-match Test series.

Australia, led by Pat Cummins, will host the five-match Test series against India later this year. The home team will be hoping to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since their last victory in the 2014-15 series. Australia has lost four consecutive Test series against India, including two home series.

On the other hand, the Rohit Sharma-led team will be yearning for their third consecutive Test series victory in Australia. It’s worth mentioning that India hadn't won a Test series in Australia before the 2018-19 tour. Australia defeated India in their recent meeting in Tests during the WTC 2023 final.

Jasprit Bumrah Played Crucial Role in India's Last Two Test Series Wins in Australia

Jasprit Bumrah has been a crucial player for India across formats. In Australia, the pacer took 21 wickets in four Tests during the 2018-19 series and followed up with 11 wickets in three matches in the 2020-21 series. Overall, he has taken 164 wickets across 37 matches at an impressive average of 20.51.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the second leading run scorer in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, behind Joe Root. The left-handed batter has scored 1,265 runs in 22 innings at an impressive average of 60.23 and strike rate of 69.77. Jaiswal has hit three centuries and seven fifties in his career.

We Still Really Like Matt Renshaw's Ability To Play - George Bailey

Matt Renshaw, who was a backup batter in recent series against the West Indies and New Zealand, has not been selected for the Australia A squad for the upcoming red-ball series against India A.

George Bailey, the chair of selectors, said that they like Renshaw's skills, but the selection process is to balance immediate opportunities with the development of players. Bailey said that Renshaw, along with Pete Handscomb and Nic Maddinson, will be closely monitored during Shield cricket.

"We still really like Matt's ability to play. As far as Australia A selection goes, part of the process around that is trying to identify opportunities that may come around in the short term but also making sure we do keep an eye on developing opportunities for those players who may become important in different roles in the future as well," Bailey said.

"Whilst there's an Australia A squad there, I think Matt Renshaw, Pete Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, as three examples, are guys who we'll continue to watch really closely in Shield cricket," he added.
