Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels that questions will be raised about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy if Team India fails to deliver in the ICC World Cup 2023. Gautam Gambhir also praised Rohit Sharma for guiding the team to the Asia Cup 2023 trophy.

Rohit Sharma-led Indian team clinched the Asia Cup 2023 title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. It was the biggest-ever victory for Team India in ODIs. They vanquished Sri Lanka for just 50-all and later won the encounter by 10 wickets.

There Was Never A Doubt About Rohit Sharma The Captain- Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir heaped praises on Rohit Sharma and said that there was never a doubt about his role as a captain. He mentioned that Sharma has five IPL titles.

“There was never a doubt about Rohit the captain. He won 5 IPL titles. Many didn’t even win once. But his real test will come in the next 15 days. You have your best 15-18 players in the dressing room now. If they cannot deliver, then there will be question marks”, the former left-handed batsman said.

If India Fails To Deliver In World Cup, Rohit Sharma Will Face Questions: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir, who presented India from 2003 to 2013, also mentioned that questions will be raised about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy if India fails to deliver in the ICC World Cup 2023. Gambhir also noted that every Indian captain in the past faced such questions.

“After every World Cup, if the captain is unable to deliver then questions will be raised. Virat Kohli faced it. Rahul Dravid faced it in 2007. If India fails to deliver in 2023, then questions will be raised about Rohit’s captaincy. But this team has the ability to make the World Cup final,” concluded Gambhir.

Meanwhile, after clinching the Asia Cup 2023 trophy, India will now play against Australia in the three-match ODI series. After the series, India will lock horns with 9 other teams in ICC World Cup 2023. The ICC tournament begins on October 5 in India.
