Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar has explained what Team India needs to do to win the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup. The marquee event got underway on Thursday (October 5) with the game between defending champions England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Sachin Tendulkar was present in the stadium as the ICC World Cup 2023 global ambassador. Before the start of the game, he carried the trophy on the ground and also shared a few interesting anecdotes from his illustrious playing career during a brief commentary stint alongside Ian Bishop and Ian Smith during England’s innings.

He also spoke about the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 during a conversation with the ICC. The legendary batsman was asked about Team India’s prospects in the competition and he explained what the team needs to do to replicate the 2011 World Cup triumph. India have not won the coveted title since MS Dhoni led the team to a historic title in 2011.

Sachin Tendulkar on India’s chances in the 2023 World Cup:

Sachin Tendulkar definitely knows a thing or two about winning the World Cup. After failing to win it five times in a row, he finally laid his hands on the trophy in 2011. The former batsman was a key member of the Indian team that won the title in 2011. He had finished the competition as India’s highest run-scorer.

And Sachin Tendulkar believes the current Indian team has also got what it takes to win the World Cup. He stated that India are playing well and need to keep things simple to go all the way in the tournament.

“I hope so, because our team is playing good cricket, and if the team continues to keep things simple and stick to basics, they have the ammunition. We’ve got strong batting line-up, a very good all-round bowling attack, we have good balance,” Sachin Tendulkar told ICC when asked whether India could win the World Cup.

Team India will begin their World Cup campaign on Sunday (October 8) with a mouthwatering clash against five-time world champions Australia. India are high on confidence after winning the Asia Cup last month and will be looking to make a winning start.
