Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes that captaincy will bring out Rohit Sharma’s best performance in the World Cup 2023. Sanjay Bangar expressed confidence that Rohit Sharma won’t be troubled by Australia’s fast bowlers in the upcoming match.
Rohit will lead the Indian team for the first time in the ODI World Cup. The right-handed batter has been part of the team in the last two editions of the 50-over event. He also led the national team to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Rohit Sharma Has A Lot Of Time To Play His Shots – Sanjay Bangar
Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the India-Australia match, Sanjay Bangar emphasized that Rohit Sharma won’t be troubled by pace as he has ample time to execute his shots effectively.
“If you look man to man, I think they do. They are perfectly fine against the left arm pace. They do average quite high, especially against Starc. So I’m pretty sure that you are trying to make something out of it, picking up a few wickets,” Bangar said.
“Rohit Sharma – obviously, pace doesn’t really fluster him. He has a lot of time (to play his shots),” he further added.
The Rohit Sharma-led team will face five-time World Cup champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. The two teams have played against each other twice in ODI series this year.
Rohit Sharma’s One Day Record Is Fabulous – Sanjay Bangar
Sanjay Bangar expressed confidence in Rohit Sharma’s ability, citing his excellent one-day record and enjoyment of batting in the World Cup.
“His one day record is fabulous. He especially enjoys batting in the World Cup and the added responsibility of the captaincy has actually helped him become a better a batsman because that’s how his game has prospered while opening the batting.
“So, he has different facets to his personality. So I’m not really bothered by the left arm swing of Mitchell Starc,” Bangar said.
As a captain, Sharma scored 1450 runs in 34 matches at an average of 55.76 and a strike rate of 105.53. He smashed an unbeaten 208-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2017. His overall career average is 48.85, with a strike rate of 90.52.
