Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes that Indian ace batter Virat Kohli is peaking at the right time in preparation for the ICC World Cup 2023. Panesar emphasized that Kohli’s presence will be crucial for the Indian team to end their decade-long ICC trophy drought.

Virat Kohli has been part of Team India in the past three editions of the ODI World Cup. The right-handed batter experienced the glory of lifting the trophy in his maiden tournament in 2011. He is entering the showpiece event on the back of good form in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli Will Be Setting The Trend – Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar described Virat Kohli‘s presence as pivotal for India in the World Cup, emphasizing his ability to set the tone in batting.

“His presence is going to be absolutely huge for this Indian team. Virat Kohli will be setting the trend when it comes to batting—the intensity, running. He senses a moment on the field. He grabs the whole team and says, This is the winning moment, and let’s grab it,” Panesar told PTI.

Kohli started the World Cup year with two brilliant centuries against Sri Lanka at home. The 34-year-old smashed a match-winning 122-run knock against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023. He scored 56 runs against Australia in his last international outing.

Like To Virat Kohli Peaks At The Right Time – Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar mentioned that Virat Kohli peaked too early in the previous year’s T20 World Cup, particularly during the group stages.

“I like to see Kohli peaks at the right time. He peaked too early in last year’s T20 World Cup. I think he peaked too early during the group stages. He played an innings that was worthy of a final against Pakistan (in the group match). This time I hope he saves it for the final or for the semifinal,” said Panesar.

Kohli will be next seen in action when the Rohit Sharma-led team faces Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. India will start as favorites to lift the silverware, given their consistent performances in recent times.
