India National Cricket Team star player Virat Kohli pulled off a sensational catch at slips in India???s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opening clash to dismiss the explosive Australia National Cricket Team opener Mitchell Marsh for a 6-ball duck at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best fielders in the world and he was seen doing intense fielding practice ahead of the match against Australia. In a clip that went viral on social media, Kohli was seen diving to take a catch and he replicated the same in the match against Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah came to bowl the third over of the match and on the second ball, he bowled a short of length delivery with extra bounce outside off-stump and Marsh only managed to outside edge the delivery. The ball went towards slip fielder Virat Kohli???s left side and he dived acrobatically, grabbed the ball with both hands to complete a terrific catch before celebrating with his teammates.

With the catch of Marsh, Virat Kohli created history as he now holds the record for most catches as a fielder for India in the World Cup history. He went past Anil Kumble???s tally of 14 catches. Also, Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar are on the list with 12 catches each to their name.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. They entered the match without Marcus Stoinis, who was not fit enough to play. India, on the other hand, were without Shubman Gill who failed to recover in time for the match against Australia.
Notably, Shubman Gill has dengue fever and according to some reports, he could miss the first few matches for India in the ongoing edition of the ICC Men???s Cricket World Cup 2023.
