IND vs AUS: Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill? Australians predict India's next generation superstar

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will begin in November this year but the build-up for the series has already started. Australia and India have started to prepare their squads for the marquee Test series.

Almost two months before the start of the series, Australian players have predicted the Indian players who can be the next generation superstars in the future. As expected, some of the players chose Yashasvi Jaiswal while the others chose Shubman Gill.

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Shubman Gill! Australian players predict the next-generation superstar from India

In a video uploaded by Star Sports on X (formerly Twitter), the players of the current Australian cricket team players were asked about the next-generation superstar from India. The question was asked to some of the top Australian players like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, and Travis Head.

Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, and Marnus Labuschagne chose Yashasvi Jaiswal while Cameron Green and Travis Head chose Shubman Gill.

"(Yashasvi) Jaiswal could be a generational superstar," Smith said in the video.

"Jaiswal is probably the next big superstar," Starc said.

Marnus Labuschagne claimed that Yashasvi Jaiswal looks like a player of all formats. "Jaiswal looks like a proper cricketer for all formats. Him and Shubman (Gill) are very good," Labuschagne admitted.

"Shubman Gill has the potential to be the upcoming superstar," Cameron Green stated.

Meanwhile, Travis Head reckoned that Shubman Gill will be the next superstar from India. Head added that Gill is a good player both off the front and the back foot, and is also a good player of spin.

"Shubman Gill I think he just needs more as his career goes on. He is ridiculous. Some of the innings I have seen, he probably looks good. Plays at the front and backfoot well, plays spin well. Shubman is going to be an absolute freak," Head said.

Potential replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are young right now and have already shown glimpses of their talents. These two are also seen as potential replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the future.

Both are likely to play a key part in the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2024-25. While Jaiswal is expected to open alongside Rohit Sharma in the series, Shubman Gill is likely to bat at No. 3. Jaiswal has had a fantastic start to his Test career whereas Gill has made a slow start but is starting to adapt to the format.

This will be Yashasvi Jaiswal's first Test series in Australia and he will be tested by the tall and skillful Australian bowlers in their own conditions. The left-hander has had a fantastic start to his Test career having amassed 1028 runs in 9 Tests at an average of 68.53.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill will be playing his second Test series in Australia. He scored a brilliant 91 which helped India register a historic win at Gabba in the last tour down under.
