Sanju Samson, on Saturday (June 1) got the perfect opportunity to cement his spot in the India playing XI ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

With the wicketkeeper-batsman doing well in IPL 2024, the Indian team management decided to try him out as an opener in the ongoing warm-up game against Bangladesh in New York. While many were expecting Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma, the team management decided to try out Sanju Samson.

The right-handed batsman has had a fine campaign in the recently-concluded IPL 2024. The Kerala star enjoyed a very prolific outing with the bat, scoring consistently to lead his team Rajasthan Royals to the playoffs. Only four batters managed to score more runs than him in IPL 2024.

Sanju Samson finished his campaign in the 17th edition of the tournament with an impressive 531 runs with the help of five half-centuries. He scored his runs at an average of more than 48 and a strike rate of over 153. With form on his side, Samson had the perfect opportunity to score big against Bangladesh and impress the team management.

However, he failed to get going with the bat and was out for just 1 run off six balls. He was trapped in front of the stumps by fast bowler Shoriful Islam. And as Samson failed to get going in the warm-up game, the fans were quick to take shots at him.

Here are some of the reactions to Sanju Samson's failure in the warm-up game:

Talking about the ongoing game, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. At the time of writing this report, India were on 83 for 2 in 9 overs. After Samson's dismissal, Rohit was dismissed by Mahmudullah. The veteran opener got the start but could not convert it into a big score and was out for 23.

Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant were batting in the middle at the time of writing this report. For the main event, India are drawn in Group A along with Ireland, Pakistan, Canada, and USA. The Men in Blue will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5.
