Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik believes that Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah could create a formidable bowling attack. However, Dinesh Karthik mentioned that the team management is prioritizing a bowler who can bat at No. 8.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are India’s first-choice pacers for the ICC World Cup 2023. Shardul Thakur was chosen as the third pacer due to his ability to contribute with the bat. Ashwin got a chance to play against Australia in Chennai’s spin-friendly conditions.

The Choice Will Be Among Shardul Thakur Or Ashwin – Dinesh Karthik

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said that the Men in Blue are considering Shardul Thakur and Ravichandran Ashwin as bowling all-rounders to bat at No. 8. Karthik also expressed his admiration for Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional bowling abilities.

“I know it is going to be a mouthwatering combination to have (Shami-Siraj-Bumrah) but India wants to play a bowler who can bat at No.8. So the choice will be among Shardul Thakur or Ashwin. Shami could play if one of the pacers is rested or has a slight niggle. Then we can see Shami play,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

“He (Bumrah) has everything and that’s why he is the best white ball bowler in the world at the moment. I don’t know why you feel he isn’t celebrated enough, but I am his huge fan and the world is of how well he has been bowling of late. He is a very lethal bowler and India should be very happy to have him in the mix of things.”

They Are In A Bit Of Doldrums At The Moment – Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik predicted that Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka are likely to be the bottom four teams in the ICC tournament.

“I feel it will be Bangladesh, The Netherlands, Afghanistan and then Sri Lanka (bottom four). They (SL) haven’t been playing good cricket of late, their captain has left the tournament, they are in a bit of doldrums at the moment. Let’s see what happens but this is how I feel it could end,” Karthik further stated.

Dasun Shanaka was ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2023 after sustaining a right thigh muscle injury. Chamika Karunaratne was named as the replacement for the marquee tournament. Sri Lanka are the only team that have not registered a victory in the tournament so far.
