Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has said that he is happy with the way Hardik Pandya has shaped up in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Hardik Pandya has impressed with both bat and bowl in the tournament.

The right-handed batsman scored 87 runs in the match against Pakistan during the group stage. The match was washed out due to rain in the 2nd innings. Hardik Pandya has also impressed with the ball, picking a crucial wicket in his first over in the other IND vs PAK match in Super Four round.

I Am Very Happy With The Way Hardik Pandya Has Shaped Up: Paras Mhambrey

While speaking to PTI, Team India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said that he was happy with the way Hardik Pandya has shaped up in the tournament. He also added that they both worked on this for a long time.

“I am very happy with the way Hardik has shaped up, something that we have worked on for a long time. We have been managing his workload, making sure that he is fit and able to achieve what we expect out of him. Once he hits 140 kmph he is a different bowler. From the team perspective it’s a wicket-taking option that we have,” said Mhambrey.

In 2 innings in Asia Cup 2023, Pandya has scored 92 runs with a top knock of 87 against Pakistan. With the ball, the right-arm seamer has grabbed 3 wickets across 3 games at an average of 21.66.

Not Easy To Drop Mohammed Shami: Paras Mhambrey

Team India dropped Mohammed Shami in the matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the super four round. Instead, they picked Shardul Thakur who has executed a decent performance. However, Paras Mhambrey feels that it is not easy to drop someone like Mohammed Shami in any game.

“It’s not very easy to drop someone like [Mohammad] Shami. The experience that he has and the performance that he has done for the country is phenomenal. It’s never easy to have that kind of conversation.

But we are clear in the way we have gone about the conversation with the players and they have shown confidence in us. Players know any decision that we take and they know that it is for the benefit of the team,” said Mhambrey.

Meanwhile, India will face Bangladesh in a dead-rubber match on Friday, September 15. It is the last Super Four match for India and Bangladesh. India has already reached Asia Cup 2023 final while Bangladesh is out of the final’s race.
