Indian team management provided an update about the fitness of Shreyas Iyer ahead of the final game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The middle-order batter faced back spasm ahead of the Super Four game against Pakistan and since then hasn’t played any match-fit team in the ongoing tournament.
An Indian team spokesperson revealed that Shreyas Iyer has shown signs of improvement and is recovering well but is yet to attain full fitness as per the reports in Sportstar. The right-hander after missing two games took part in an optional practice session ahead of the ongoing game against Bangladesh.
It was expected that Shreyas Iyer would find a place in the XI for the Bangladesh clash but it wasn’t the case. He notably returned from the long injury just ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. He underwent surgery in his back and attained full fitness but unfortunately got injured again.
Shreyas Iyer played in the league game against Pakistan. He looked in good touch and smashed 14 runs before he got out. He didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the game against Nepal but fielded during the Indian innings. His injury doesn’t seem too serious and it is expected that he will recover soon.

Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to return to the XI for the final against Sri Lanka. With the way KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have performed in the team, it is unlikely that the team will tweak the middle order in the big game.
