Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla has put an end to the long-standing rumors of a rift between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli with a shocking statement ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai.

Chawal surprisingly revealed that the highly talked-about tension never existed between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, claiming there was never a rift between the two legends of Indian cricket.

It was a big shock, as there had been talks about their cold war since the infamous clash in 2013.

Piyush Chawla’s bombshell exposes the truth about Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s relationship

All these years, Indian cricket team fans were sure that Virat Kohli and Gambhir shared cold vibes. The incident in IPL 2023 has blown the ashes of their alleged feuds.

The heated confrontation during the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clash in 2023 had all but sealed the fact that there was no liking between the two Indian icons.

Since both of them have been known for their fiery temperament, the on-field spat made things worse.

Adding fuel to the fire was Virat Kohli's breathtaking performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, where he smashed over 700 runs and eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 49 ODI centuries by notching up his historic 50th ton.

And the ever-competitive Gambhir was expected to show anything, but the gossip lovers didn’t get anything more than respect for Kohli’s achievements.

The so-called and media-made rivalry between the two players came out as a myth during the ODI World Cup 2023, as revealed by Chawla.

While both Gambhir and Virat Kohli are known to wear their hearts on their sleeves and often engage in a bit of argy-bargy on the field of play, they stunned many by embracing each other during an IPL 2024 match, ending the alleged feud between them.

The turnaround took an even more unexpected turn when Gambhir was named head coach of Team India in July.

‘Now don’t say there was any tiff between us': Gambhir to Chawla

It was a very surprising call, given his history with Virat Kohli, and that ultimately ended any lingering tension between them. With both players now working towards a common goal for Indian cricket, it’s clear that the 'saga' of Kohli and Gambhir, earlier full of controversies, ended completely.

Now, Chawla revealed that there was never any bad blood between Gambhir and Virat Kohli. The former Indian spinner recalled their chat during the 2023 ODI World Cup when they were part of the broadcasting team, and Gambhir made an unbelievable comment about Kohli.

Piyush Chawla said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast on YouTube: “I was with Gauti Bhai on a show. A question was asked, ‘When Virat completed his 50th ODI hundred, which bowler did he take the single off? I was not aware, but Gambhir knew. And he said, ‘Now don’t say there was any tiff between us.' Gauti Bhai is a class and one of the best.”

Gauti Bhai always motivates players: Chawla

Chawla played under the captaincy of Gambhir at KKR, and the duo gave it their all to win two IPL titles for the franchise in 2012 and 2014. The former Indian spinner further heaped massive praise on the Indian head coach, describing him as inspirational and motivating.

He signed off by saying, “Gauti Bhai always motivates players. Gambhir will back a cricketer even if he has failed in 14 games. If you are a performer, he will stand by you, and that is brilliant for any player. I played with him in the Indian team, India A and KKR. He is aggressive on the field but is polite off the field. He is one of the best humans, and it is always fun with him.”
